2014 Middle Grade Fiction Nerdies
I am a lover of middle grade fiction. If you were to peek inside my house and classroom and see the piles of books in my to-read stacks you find that most of the books are middle grade fiction. 2013 was a wonderful year for middle grade fiction, and I’m excited to announce to the winners of the 2014 Nerdy Book Club middle grade fiction Nerdies.

A truly deserving list of winners here! These books belong in every middle grade classroom.
I gave my daughter “Counting by 7s” for Christmas and she LOVED it!
Aren’t we lucky to be able to bring these treasures into our classroom?!
Great choices! I’ve read 3 and bought my son the other 2 for Christmas!!
The great librarian at my school helped me to implement a Mock Newbery persuasive reading/writing project. She chose 14 fiction and non-fiction books of 2013, ones which got a lot of buzz. My students partnered up and chose one of the books to read. Their writing piece was to persuade the other students in the class to vote for their book for the Mock Newbery Award. Very Common Core and very fun! Many finished their books fast and started reading as many others on the list as possible. We also had Starr Latronica, Newbery Committee member, come as a guest speaker to tell the class how the Newbery is chosen. Then they will give a short book commercial with their partner and the class will read the persuasive essays before we hold the vote. I am happy to say that 4/5 of the books posted here were on our Mock Newbery list. My favorite is Counting by 7’s.
