Best Books of 2011

Thank you Tom Angleberger for designing our nerdy logo.

Do you love to read?  Is talking about books something that you can’t live without?

If you answered yes to those questions, congratulations, you are a member of the Nerdy Book Club (NBC).

The NBC has decided to take our love for books to the next level.  We have spent the last year discussing our favorite books: at conferences, #titletalk, #bookaday, Twitter, Goodreads, libraries, on the phone, through email, and in classrooms.  It just seems appropriate that we honor the books we love by naming them “Nerdy Book Club Best Books of 2011″.

This is how things things will work.

1. Nominations

Nominations will run from December 1 to December 8. To nominate please follow this link: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/VZPH2DQ

After nominations close, NBC members will sort through nominations and put together a list of finalists.

2. Voting

A link for voting will be provided on December 11.  Voting will run through December 16.

3. Book List

The NBC Best Books of 2011 will be announced December 18th, at the monthly NBC meeting #titletalk.  For more information on #titletalk please click on the link to go to Colby Sharp’s post on the November Title Talk: http://sharpread.wordpress.com/2011/11/26/november-2011-titletalk/

4. What Next?

We will reveal more activities soon.

    This is awesome! I’ve recently rediscovered the joy of reading for fun, and am working to instill that passion in my students. I’m definitely going to be keeping up with this website!

    OMG! I am a nerdy book lover!!! Since the ripe age of 3. I used to pitch fits on Sunday afternoons because everyone else was reading, and I didn’t know how. Enough fit pitching wore my mom down, and I got to go to Kindergarten a whole year early (private-public wasn’t “invented”!).

    Had the Nerdy Book Club been around when I was a kid, I would have been a proud member … of something else. But things change. My, how things change. And here we are, the NBC and me. I couldn’t be happier.

    A few people mentioned t-shirts, and for what it’s worth, I’m partial to 1980′s world tour shirts. White shirt, black 3/4 sleeves, cities and dates on the back. Timeless.

    In case you missed reading my post about being a fanatical reader since the ripe age of 4, I will post again. :) I love to read. I bought a kindle this summer, and it’s great to have because of my sometimes not always impatient behavior, BUT I still like to hold the book. Smell the book. Be the book. Do you get my drift? I.love.reading. It’s like I have to come up for air when I read because I get so drawn into their world. :)

    OK-I’m trying again!

    Am I nerdy enough if I made my 17 year old daughter drive us to Montgomery to go shopping so I could finish reading Okay For Now by Gary Schmidt?????? :) We did end up having some great mother/daughter time, but Doug kept butting in a little1 :)
